Frontier Airlines: Double miles through the end of 2015

Frontier Airlines is rolling out a double-mile promotion that will help its customers rack up more miles and earn elite status twice as fast on flights through the end of the year.

The promotion covers the last two months of the year, typically a slow time for air travel. Business travel declines during this time of year and leisure fliers tend to cluster their plans around the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Frontier's move also comes amid increasing competition between the USA's fast-growing "ultra" low-cost carriers like Frontier and Spirit and major rivals such as American, Delta and United.

"The double miles are way for us to thank customers for their loyalty and to entice new customers to try us — especially with our improved on-time performance," Frontier spokesman Jim Faulkner says to The Denver Post.

Frontier’s offer applies to paid tickets booked after Monday (Nov. 2) through the end of the year. Travel must occur by the end of 2015 to be eligible for the promotion. Customers who book and fly during that window will earn double redeemable miles – miles that can be used toward award travel – as well as double "elite-qualifying miles" that count toward earning elite status.

“For those customers who travel less frequently, they can now earn travel much more quickly,” Daniel Shurz, Frontier's chief commercial officer, says in a statment. “Moderate and more frequent travelers also can earn Elite status much more quickly.”

Fliers earn elite status in Frontier's EarlyReturns frequent-flier program by flying 20,000 miles in a 365-day window. Customers also can qualify by flying 25 “segments” – or individual flights – within the same window.

Frontier’s elite-level fliers receive perks like priority check-in and boarding and are exempt from certain fees.

To be eligible for the double-miles promotion, Frontier says customers must provide their EarlyReturns frequent-flier numbers at the time of booking.
